Son of Giuseppe Bartolini and Possidonia Ottonelli, Primo was an alumnus of the University of Bologna, where he earned his degree in literary studies before graduating again in Switzerland and leaving his homeland. He was admitted to the United States on November 20, 1907.
In the US, Bartolini was awarded a Bachelor of Arts degree from Conception College, in Missouri, before moving to Nashville in 1908.
